1.6 Million Okada riders across Nigeria ask Buhari to wait as they are ready for him should his boys make violence priority
National coordinator of Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MUTN) and also Anambra State chairman of the union, Mr Jude Udegbe announced this in Nnewi yesterday. He said over 1.6million members of the union were ready for peaceful election but would not condone any violence to rob them of their choice of President.
Udegbe stated that his members had resolved to give 99% votes to Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the forth-coming presidential election, citing freedom of association and respect for the rule of law in Jonathan's administration as some of the reasons for the resolve.
Mr Udegbe said the decision was taken after the union's meeting in Abuja at the weekend. He explained that the union had carefully watched President Jonathan and his administration and discovered that he never reacted to issues abnormally even when he was provoked, saying that Nigerians needed such a cool-headed leader to continue as President.
"General Muhammadu Buhari should wait until Jonathan finishes his second tenure. By the way, what has Buhari forgoten in Aso Rock? Won't he retire from active politics at 72 he said he is to enjoy his retirement benefits? Without sentiment, Jonathan has done very well to deserve another tenure. Apart from some irrational Governors in some States of the federation who banned commercial motorcycle business, Jonathan has never come up with any policy that affected us in any negative way. As for those Governors who banned Okada in their various States, we will pay them back in their own coin during the election," Mr Udegbe vowed.
He said that his members would turn out en mass to vote and protect their votes. He told our correspondent that possession of the Permanent Voter's Card has been made compulsory amongst members of the union to enable them vote massively for Jonathan.
He alleged that the period Buhari was the Head of State that he ruled with austere policies that worked against fundamental human rights which he said Nigerians would not like to be replicated.
