No fewer than 12,000 descendants of Dunu Okofia attended the maiden edition of the Dunukofia Cultural Day held in Dunukofia council area of Anambra,

The council, which is made of six communities - Ukpo, Ifitedunu, Umunnachi, Umudioka, Ukwulu and Nawgu - , have common ancestral linage of having Dunu Okofia as their great fore-father.

The Traditional Ruler of Ifitedunu Community, Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno, told www.odogwublog.com that the occasion was the most remarkable thing to happen among the people of the council area for over 60 years.

``The gains are very numerous, numerous in the sense like I said that we are displaying, we are showcasing our people.

``We are gathering to know ourselves; we are going to know our children, our sons and daughters.

``And not only that, like I said, our culture would be showcased to the World; the World will come to know what we are made of.

``Our cuisine, our arts will be showcased to the World; so at the end of the day both us and the outside World will learn it.

``And you see, what do we gain, we gain this camaraderie, this relationship, this love, display of love amongst our people.

``That today, every person is seeing each other; and we are saying - O! It is true o!, we, we love each other, we are brothers and sisters.

``Do you see that the way we dance is the way they dance; the way we eat is the way they eat,’’ he said.

Ilouno, who was the co-ordinator of the event, thanked prominent sons and daughters of the council for making it a reality.

``We are indebted to Prince Arthur Eze, who had banked rolled this event as well as other that contributed to its success’’.

He noted that the event had also afforded the people of the council area the forum to discuss common challenges facing them and proffer way forward for them.

Mr John Nwabueze, an indigene of Ukwulu, thanked the organizers for the initiative and the colourful manner the arena was decorated with ancient arts and artifacts of Dunukofia people.

``Since, it is has been made an annual event, I would look forward for it and hope to meet more of my brothers and schoolmates, who I have lost contact with some years,’’ Nwabueze said.

Highlights of the occasion were the display of various masquerades, foods, arts and reading out the details of the Dunu Okofia linage to the 15th generation.

Also, Prince Arthur Eze, a business mogul, gave each of the communities N10 million for developmental purposes.
