Police orderly shoots mother of 2 in Ogun AS APC rally turns bloody

Tragedy struck at a campaign rally of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday when a police orderly attached to a member of the House of Representatives, Segun Williams allegedly shot dead a mother of two simply identified as Taiwo.

The incident occurred at Erunbe in Ago-Oko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The gunshot allegedly fired by Williams’ police orderly also injured a young man.

Daily Sun gathered that the National Assembly member representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency on the platform of the APC had gone to the Erunbe community with his supporters for his re-election campaign when the incident occurred.

A witness, who pleaded anonymity explained that in a bid to clear the way for the federal lawmaker, the police orderly fired twice from the open roof of the Sports Utility Vehicle conveying Williams, with the bullets hitting the young man and the woman simultaneously.

According to the witness, Taiwo popularly called Mama Ola, was in her kiosk where she sold petty items,  when the bullets from Williams’ escort’s gun hit her.

Immediately she was hit by the bullet, Taiwo was said to have fallen in the gutter in front of her shop in a pool of blood.

Her 16-year-old daughter, Halimat, who spoke amid sobs, explained that she was in the shop with her mother and was assisting her to pack some bunches of  banana when she suddenly heard people shouting “ Iya Ola!, Iya Ola!!”

Halimat said as she turned in her mother’s direction, and saw her lying on the floor in front of the shop and in the pool of her blood.

The other victim of the gunshot, whose face was said to have been shattered by bullets, was said to have been taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro, where doctors were still battling to save his life, as at press time.

According to a witness, the bullets injured the man’s two eyes while the woman was said to have died on the way to the same hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, said preliminary report indicated that it was one of the hoodlums that fired the shot, which killed the woman and injured the young man.
