Police Arrest Fake DSP in Ogun



The police in Ogun State, South West Nigeria have arrested a fake Deputy Superintendent of Police, Makinde Paul.

The 54-year-old fake DSP from Itoko in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state was arrested in Adatan ‎area of the state capital.
As at the time of his arrest, the fake police officer was fully dressed in the uniform of a Deputy Superintendent of Police serving under the Ogun State Command.
Parading the fake officer, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Haliru Gwandu stated that the fake policeman was arrested following suspicion by some officers of the command in Adatan area of the state capital.
Gwandu said Makinde had been parading himself as an officer of the command since last year and had swindled many unsuspecting members of the public.
He added that the fake policeman failed some of the parade test conducted for him by a senior officer of the command and could not give the name of any of his classmates in the police training school.
The suspect confessed to the crime, disclosing that he bought the uniform from a friend of his, who he claimed died some time ago.
Makinde said that he had always wanted to be a police officer having being enrolled before now into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, but was prevented by members of his family, who had vowed never to allow any one of them to join the police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police said he had handed over the matter to the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the command for further investigation and prosecution of the fake officer.
