Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has said
his government is beyond attracting investing of $1.65 Billion direct
investment as it is equally doing everything possible to internally generate
revenue of about N3.2 Billion monthly.
www.odogwublog.com reports that Obiano told Correspondents chapel members in a
parley at his country home that before he took over government, the IGR was
N500,000,000 but that he is currently generating N1.1 Billion but that he is
not satisfied until it gets to N3.2 Billion
to enable the monthly salary of the state workforce generated through IGR.
He said his government has the potentials to block
the loopholes adding that his government has not abandoned any project by the
previous administration as it is a continued government.
Obiano said the state has attracted about $1.65
billion investment from investors since March 17, 2014 when the new
administration was inaugurated.
These investments, he said, were attracted to key
areas covering agriculture, hospitality and tourism industry, power
generation, trade and commerce, among others.
Obiano told the Correspondents that he has his eyes
on the ball despite the numerous distractions and appealed for support to
enable him actualize his vision and mission for Ndi-Anambra. He informed them
of his various programmes and achievements as well as challenges facing his
government.
The Anambra Governor disclosed that he had
appointed former Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, as head of Anambra
State Airport Development Agency based on her wealth of experience and track
record of turning around the country’s aviation industry.
He noted that his administration had distributed
high-yielding seedlings to farmers and encouraged the formation of cooperative
societies for easy access to farm inputs and credits as well as mechanized
agriculture.
The governor stated that through the Anambra State
Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) headed by eminent
Anambra people, investments had flowed in from the Coched Farms $175 million,
Ekcel Farms Limited ($150 million) and Grains and Silos Limited ($11 million).
Others attracted to invest in Anambra by
Obiano administration are Delfarm Limited and Songhai Regional Centre from
Benin Republic with $200 million investment, West Africa Inter-continental
Trade Centre ($320 million) and Cardinal Developers and Trust which took over
the completion of Anambra’s four-star luxury hotel in Onitsha, among others.
He stated that the investment feat recorded by his
administration in a few months in office was made possible by well-deserved
appointment of competent professionals, especially in the areas of financial
investment and banking as board members of the Anambra State investment
Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), led by Cyril Enweze, traditional
ruler of Umuoji and an accomplished professional of international repute.
The governor pointed out that consideration was being given to an idea
of expanding Onitsha Main Market to the River Niger, stressing that four other
urban markets had been proposed for urban settlements of the state.
He assured teachers that he would not play with their welfare as
education , health and security remained areas he wanted to stamp his authority
to show that Anambra can do things differently for the good of all.
Obiano said his administration has declared operation zero tolerance of
potholes in the three senatorial zones with 22 contractors handling that but he
did not disclose the cost. He said he was amazed when somebody in his convoy
incidentally lost his phone while getting down from the vehicle at Upper Iweka
and they went back and still got the phone, hence he was happy his operation
Mkpochapu is working.
He reminded that with the gun boat promised by Emeka Okwuosa from
Oraifite for security , the state would be secured and completely at peace in
the next three months with former CP of police Delta state Ikechukwu Aduba
in-charge of security. He lamented that most arms and ammunitions enter the
state through the water ways.
The Anambra Governor was hopeful that rice and tomatoes buyers would
soon have Anambra state as its destination point for the commodities with the
enhanced rice mill and tomato plant in the offing.
