Former Governor of Anambra State and Deputy Director General (South) of
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council, Mr. Peter Obi, has
commended President Goodluck Jonathan for slashing the pump price of petroleum
products, reports www.odogwublog.com .
Obi made the commendation yesterday during a chat with journalists.
Calling on Nigerians to reciprocate the gesture, Obi said: “As we
commend Mr. President for this epochal decision, may I call on marketers and
others to cooperate with the government by effecting the reduction immediately.
May I also request transporters to also reflect the reduction in their fares,
so that the masses will benefit from that as envisaged by Mr. President.”
He also thanked the president for eliminating annoying queues, which
were almost a permanent feature at the nation’s filling stations before
Jonathan became president.
Obi said he was optimistic that the reduction would have far-reaching
positive effects on the socio-economic life of the people.
He, however, condemned those relating the deduction to politics, saying
it showed their intention to always attack every decision of government.
“In any case,” Obi said, “if doing good and being responsive to the
needs of the people in a manner as not to endanger the life of the state is
politics, I encourage Mr. President to play more of it.”
