A reputable international organization popularly known as Nwannedinamba
Switzerland which comprises mainly of indigenes from various communities in the
south Eastern state of Nigeria has once again showed that they are committed to
wiping away the tears of the down trodden in the society .
The Association recently visited Holy Family Sisters of the needy at
Okwu-Uratta, in Owerri wipe away the sorrows of the inmates by showing love and
kindness through distribution of various gift items.
While receiving them the matron of the St Joseph Orphanage, Rev Sr. Jacinta
Oluoma said that they have been surviving on people’s generosity irrespective
of the fact that the Church plays a vital role in overseeing their welfare.
She explained that the mission of the Orphanage is to look after the teenagers
who got pregnant outside wedlock and could not be able to take care of
themselves both materially and financially.
“We do not encourage abortion at all so when young girls seek our help in such
cases we admit them, look after them until they give birth and the child
remains under our custody. During this period we counsel them and give them
numerous reasons to live a good life and with the help of good spirited
individuals and organizations return them to responsible living.
“Some of them came to us for assistance because their culture forbids such
situation and view it as a taboo, so admitting them is also a way to make sure
that the mother and unborn child are well secured both physically and
spiritually.
On the issue of adoption, Sr. Oluoma noted that they allow responsible couples
to incorporate these children because some marriages have been broken on the
ground of childlessness.
Adoption according to her is only possible if the couple does not have any
child and that they restrict only those who have been blessed with the
fruit of the womb or single parents as the case may be.
She stressed that no money is involved when it comes to adopting one of their
wards rather it is their duty to investigate the family’ status properly before
giving their consent and they will as a matter of importance supervise them at
intervals of six months when an agreement has been reached for the child to be
under their custody.
Sr. Oluoma said that it has always been testimonies as many families who
patronized them come back with Joy because God has answered their prayer by
blessing them in return with their own biological children.
She thanked the team of Nwannedinamba Switzerland for their visit and donations
of numerous items that will go a long way in alleviating their problems.
In his speech the association’s Chairman Mr. Victor Nworah opined that their
visit is no longer a new thing to Orpahanage Homes because they have made it a
priority to help the less privileged in the society every year of which it
usually cuts across all the states of the federation.
Nworah used the opportunity to urge well meaning Nigerians not to lose focus as
to the welfare of innocent children abandoned in Homes like this due to one
condition or the other. He noted that they will be able to showcase their
talents if given adequate education, love, guidance and skillful training to
fit in the society or properly be adopted into good homes.
Nworah also said that plans are underway to alleviate the numerous
challenges facing orphanages in the country and thanked the matron and her
staff for keeping the environment clean and urging them not to relent in their
good work of helping the humanity.
Meanwhile the association presented them with a cash of thirty thousand naira,
two bags of rice, five cartons of indomie, two big rolls of toilet tissue, four
gallons of non cholesterol vegetable oil, four cartons of cabin biscuits, two
big rolls Pampers, two cartons of Bar soap, two cartons of Ariel detergent, six
baby creams, cartons of Detol disinfectant, two cartons of Capri sonne juice,
cartons of tin tomatoes etc.
