Supporters of President Goodluck
Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those of his rival, General
Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday engaged in
war of words in the commercial city of Onitsha over the statement by the
Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.
As early as 7.30 am yesterday,
supporters of the two converged on the Old Market Road in the commercial city
while waiting for the arrival of newspapers and engaged in strong arguments
over the cleric statement.
Leader of pr-Jonathan group and
Chairman of Newspaper Distributors Association, Onitsha, Mr. Jude Isiguzo,
lambasted Fr. Mbaka for allegedly attacking President Jonathan, describing his
action as against the principle of evangelization.
He said there could not have been
any alternative to President Jonathan, adding: “President Jonathan is already
there, whatever anybody is saying about his re-election is his or her own
figment of imagination and we shall stand behind our own if the country is
falling, we don’t want any religious fanatic as a president.”
However, pro-Buhari group
insisted that there was nothing wrong in what Fr. Mbaka said, adding that the
man of God only gave the message of God to save the ailing country from the
hands of President Jonathan.
Commercial motorcycle operators
popularly known as Okada riders and members of free readers association were
not left out in the argument as they parked their motorcycles to be part of the
raging argument.
