Former Abia State governor, Dr.
Orji Uzor Kalu, has extended a warm welcome to President Goodluck Jonathan to
South-East, as the president flags off his presidential re-election campaign in
the zone today in Enugu.
This is coming at a time when the
former governor and business mogul expressed optimism that the Peoples
Democratic party (PDP) will win next month’s presidential election.
Welcoming Jonathan to South-East,
Kalu said the president was coming to a favourable land, where he would get
enormous support.
He said: “I am happy to welcome
the president to the South-East. I want to assure the president of support from
the zone. The South-East voted for the president in 2011. We will do it again.”
Earlier yesterday, Kalu, while
visiting former pilitary president, General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger
State, expressed hope that the PDP would win the presidential election.
Kalu said although Jonathan would
win, the PDP may not form the majority at the National Assembly.
He expressed worry that the
polity was being overheated, urging politicians to calm down.
He also called on candidates to
be patient.
The former governor said he was
in Minna, as part of his usual tradition of visiting the former military
president every January.
His words: “During our meeting,
we spoke about issues concerning our party, the PDP, about governance and the
progress of the country generally.”
The PDP chieftain said despite
several challenges facing the country, it was making progress.
