It’s a new dawn –Adesina, The Sun MD

The number 12 has been described as a perfect num­ber symbolizing God’s power and au­thority.

The Managing Director, The Sun Publishing Lim­ited, Mr Femi Adesina made the remark yesterday while welcoming guests at the 12th edition of the annual The Sun Awards in Lagos.

He described the num­ber as unique in the cosmic order, even as he observed that it was a new dawn for the newspaper house. Elucidating on the charac­teristics of the number 12, Adesina said: “The number 12 is generally believed to be a perfect number, sym­bolizing God’s power and authority. It is symbol of the cosmic order. Here are some other unique charac­teristics about 12: there are twelve months in a year. Time is measured in two groups of 12 hours. There are 12 tribes of Israel rep­resenting the 12 sons of Ja­cob (later known as Israel). 12 Imams are successors to Muhammed, the prophet of Islam. Jesus Christ had 12 original disciples. The new Jerusalem that is expected to come from Heaven has 12 gates.

The European Union flag has 12 stars in it, though it has nothing to do with the number of countries in the Union.

There are 12 days of Christmas, starting from De­cember 25 to January 6, the feast of Epiphany.

Apollo-12 is the second manned spacecraft to land on the moon. Adesina, who said the Sun Awards has become a major item in the country’s event calendar, explained that the event was moved from Feb­ruary, when it usually holds to January because of the forthcoming general elec­tion.

Interestingly, 19 Nigerians drawn from different walks of life were honoured yester­day for distinguishing them­selves in their various areas of endeavour.
