In order to ensure greater members of the Anambra
state electorates get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) within before the
February 2015 polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in
Anambra State has adopted new measures.

reports that the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Edwin
Nwatarari, disclosed this at Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area
at a stakeholders’ forum in furtherance of INEC's tour in all its offices
in 21 council areas in the state.
According to Mr. Nwatarari, the tour was geared
towards ensuring that all the registered voters in the state obtain their PVC s
prior to the forthcoming general elections, adding that they were committed to
displaying the names of registrants at their various polling booths.
He, however called on the stakeholders and
politicians to work in synergy with the commission with a view to creating
desired awareness for registered voters to pick up their PVC, and therein
prevent apathy .
Nwatarari added that the PVC distribution has gone
down to ward levels, tom ensure all registered electorates are issued their PVC
from Jan 24 (as soon as their PVCs are made available).
The REC reminded the Eos that collection of PVC must
not be by proxy cautioning INEC officers to play by the rule as any mark of
illegality would not be tolerated by the commission.
He then informed stakeholders not to hesitate in
reporting any abnormality to the commission via the telephone numbers
(08033241330 and 080 33096613).
On her part, the State INEC Public Relations Officer
(PRO), Mrs Nkechi Offong noted that the new REC has devised a good workable
means in appealing to the minds of the people on the need for PVC collection,
adding that reasonable result would be achieved at the end of the tour.
Earlier, the Chairman of Idemili South Local
Government Area, Mr Henry Ezenwa , and his counterpart from Oyi Council Area,
commended INEC for organizing the forum at a very important time like now, and
vowed to support in ensuring its hitch-free.

have challenged the voters in the council and promised to create the needed
awareness.
