One of the major groups in the South East championing re-election of President
Goodluck Jonathan, Goodluck/Sambo Global Campaign Organization has advised the
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General
Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to honourably drop his ambition to rule Nigeria again
and leave the leadership of the country to the hands of a younger one and core
civilian " instead of taking the country back to the days of old breed and
military era."
According to the South East Deputy Zonal Co-ordinator of the group, Chief Maduka Atueyi, the former army General had no moral justification to rule the entire Nigeria again "because of his sectional religious interest and his previous failed attempt as a military Head of State to Islamize Nigeria by making it a member of the Organization of the Islamic Council (OIC) despite the multireligious status of Nigeria."
He said that there was no way the former military Head of State would accommodate other religions if he became the President as President Goodluck Jonathan was seen to be doing, adding that any form of relegation of any religion would amount to toiling with the unity of Nigeria and a dynamite that would explode and consume the country. He also said that Nigerians should read meanings into General Buhari's promise to stop Boko Haram activities, alleging that the APC Presidential candidate's promise on Boko Haram gave the impression that he knew very much about the insurgents.
He noted that since the former Head of State had firmly promised to completely stop Boko Haram activities if he became President that it put a big question mark as to his knowledge of the sponsors of the insurgents or why they were posing security challenges to President Jonathan's administration "for political reasons."
"His statement to stop Boko Haram is nebulous. It is very implicating. Another major issue is that, during his time as a Head of State he was trying to make Nigeria an OIC member. Nigeria is a maltifarious nation, of different religious backgrounds. And I think he still has in mind to do that, to Islamize Nigeria and that will be the worst thing that can happen to this country. He has never publicly said that he will never Islamize Nigeria," Chief Atueyi reasoned.
He also recalled that the APC presidential candidate had allegedlly said that if he failed the presidential election that he would form a parallel government, and wondered why someone who meant well for Nigeria would make such an alleged statement. He demanded that General Buhari should tell Nigerians what he forgot in Aso Rock "instead of staying back to enjoy his retirement benefits."
