Cult clash kills one in Enugu

A middle-aged man, identified as Tochukwu, alias Schwarzenegger, was in the early hours of yesterday shot dead by suspected rival cult members in Enugu State.

The incident occurred along Enugu State Broadcasting Service, ESBS, Bus Stop, at Independence Layout axis of the city.
An eyewitness said the victim was trailed to the spot and shot at close range by two men, who then ran into a nearby bush.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.
He said: “His death may be connected to the killing of one other young man at the Abakpa axis of the metropolis by suspected cult members.”
The corpse had been deposited at the Mount Calvary Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, a water tanker yesterday suffered brake failure, rammed into an electric pole and somersaulted in front of Enugu State House of Assembly.
The driver, identified as Chinedu, died on the spot, while the conductor, who jumped out of the tanker, sustained serious injuries.
