1,000 PPDP members decamp to APGA in Anambra

It was spontaneous for over 1,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra who defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during a campaign rally of candidates of APGA in Awka North and South federal constituency. .  


Chief Victor Umeh, the national chairman of APGA who received the defectors at a rally in Awka thanked the candidates include Chief Godson Ezenagu contesting for the Awka North and South federal constituency for winning new members with permanent  voters cards.

Others are Mr Harford Osseke, and Dr Nnamdi Okafor for Awka south 11, Awka South 1 respectively and Boniface Okonkwo for Awka North all for the Anambra House of Assembly.

Umeh admonished members to avoid confrontation and violence in their efforts to canvass for votes and further promised that APGA would be violence-free in the elections. 

The APGA chairman described the party’s candidates in the constituency as the best from among other contestants, said that the party did not need to engage in any form of violence to win elections.

“We have welcomed the new members because they know APGA is a peaceful party, the PDP, in their former parties they complained of confusion and violence and we stand for violence free polls.

“APGA has presented the best candidates for Awka north and south, our victory is sure, our message is the message of peace and that is our position in this election,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the other contestant, Ezenagu said he was overwhelmed by the solidarity shown by the people, adding that it was assign of victory for APGA.

He reminded the people that APGA remained the party that would
represent their interest Igbo identity in party politics, while promising that the candidates if voted into office would make them feel the impact of good legislative representation at all level.

“The people has spoken and going by what is happening here, the election is as good as won, my promise to them is that this journey is for them.

“I want to make a change in the affairs of my people by giving quality
representation, they will get democracy dividends and lots of infrastructure will be
attracted to the constituency,” he said.

In his remarks Chief Cosmas Okonkwo chairman of Awka North council said he was elated with the turn out at the rally, adding that Awka people would support the party in the area.

Earlier, Dr Nkem Okeke deputy Governor of Anambra said that the administration needed peoples' cooperation by voting APGA so that it could enjoy stability in the state.
