Former
military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, says the Lifetime
Achievement award bestowed on him by The Sun Publishing Limited, is one that
not only him and his children will appreciate, but one that even his grand and
great grandchildren will forever cherish.
Babangida,
in an emotion-laden response to the letter intimating him with the award,
presented by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Publishing Ltd.,
Mr. Femi Adesina, described the honour as unsolicited.
“This
award, coming from a reputable media outfit like The Sun, will surely
excite any recipient. I have looked through the list and discovered that many
of them on that list are people I have known for a long time; some of them are
my friends and many are people I am proud to be associated with,” the former
military president said.
He
assured the duo of Adesina and Mr. Steve Nwosu, Executive Director, Corporate
Services, who came to present the letter, that he would be in Lagos to
personally receive the award on January 17 next year.
Adesina,
while presenting the letter, recalled quite a number of policies and programmes
carried out by Babangida during his eight-year leadership.
These,
he said, touched the lives of Nigerians in diverse ways, pointing out that the
former leader eminently deserved the award.
