The keenly contested primaries
took place at Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island where over 5,000 delegates
from the 20 local governments in the state participated in the election. Voting
started at 2p.m.
While speaking at the event, the
state Chairman of the party, Chief Henry Ajomale urged those who lost to accept
their defeat and work for the progress of the party and the state. He also
denied responsibility for a text message which was circulated while the
primaries were still going on asking the delegates to vote for a particular
aspirant.
“I learnt that there was a text message being circulated to members of the party allegedly from me, asking the delegates to vote for a particular candidate. I am not responsible for the said message and I do not have any preferred candidate. For this reason, I decided to abstain from voting.

Among the 12 aspirants, only one was
meant to emerge and I urge those who did not win to accept the outcome of the
primaries and work for the progress of the party and the state,” he said.
Tinubu, who was not present, sent a
goodwill message congratulating the aspirants on their conduct and imploring
them to work together with the winner to move the party forward. He said he had
previously met with all the aspirants and they promised that the primaries were
going to be free and fair.
“I want to commend all the aspirants
for their matured conduct in ensuring that the primaries went on smoothly. They
traversed the length and breadth of Lagos, selling their manifestos to the
people, which was the best thing to do.
As much as I wish the party to reward all the aspirants for their efforts, it is impossible to do so. We believe in you all, but for the state to move forward, we must all join hands and work together. The way we will conduct ourselves after now will be a reflection of what Lagos represents. Our enemies lie in wait for us to tear each other apart, but we should remain as a family and settle whatever differences we may have amicably.”

Rivers
There was mixed feelings
yesterday over the emergence of Dr. Dakuku Peterside, as the consensus
governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State, ahead of the 2015 general
elections.
Immediately the state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, declared that Peterside was the party’s flag bearer and the 25 lawmakers of the House of Assembly would be given automatic ticket, some people left the hall, thereby causing some distractions before voting commenced.
The federal lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, who was a governorship hopeful from the Ogoni extraction, was conspicuously absent.
Speaking on the choice of Peterside, who is the lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, the governor explained that his adoption was in the best interest of Rivers people.
According to him, the caucus of the party met and picked him as the APC governorship flag bearer in the forthcoming general elections in the state.
Addressing the over 4,700 delegates, the governor stated that, his “bosom friend,” Senator Magnus Abe and his deputy, Mr. Tele Ikuru, were as qualified as Peterside, for the position of the governor, adding that they sat and took the decision.
“The flag bearer, by God’s grace is Dakuku Adolphus Peterside because we sat and agreed on that. That does not mean that my bosom friend, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe was not qualified. I respect his intellect.”
He said: “There are two Nigerians I respect their intellect. They are Senator Magnus Abe and Odein Ajumogobia
