Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose yesterday issued a two-month ultimatum to landlords whose houses are without toilets in any part of the state to make amends or face the music.
Fayose declared this, while featuring on his monthly Radio and Television programme tagged, “Meet your governor” in Ado-Ekiti, that defaulting landlords now have up till the end of February, 2015 to provide the facility in their homes.
He warned that after the said date, erring landlords would not only be arrested but also face prosecution.
The governor said same penalty awaited tenants who knowingly or unknowingly rent such houses that have no toilet facilities.
“If by the end of February 2015, we still have landlords who build or live in houses without considering toilet facilities, such landlords will be apprehended and made to face prosecution under the state Environmental law.
“I also want to add that tenants who rent such faulty houses stand the risk of facing similar penalty with their landlords”, Fayose declared.
He bemoaned the poor environmental situation in the state, attributing it largely to poor attitude of residents to clean and hygienic living.
The governor condemned the way and manner some residents especially in Ado- Ekiti, state capital, still engaged in poor attitudes, such as open defaecation and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The governor said everything humanly possible would be done in the New Year towards ensuring that the people were secure in terms of good health, clean environment and quality leadership.
He disclosed that his government had mapped out strategies aimed at providing quality water and other social amenities under the 2015 budget, which he warned may be scuttled if people refused to toe the line of basic principles of hygiene and discipline.
