The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Tuesday, disclosed that police authorities would offer scholarship awards to orphans of the slain police officers, who were ambushed on May 7, 2013 by the proscribed Ombatse militiamen at Alakyo Village in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Abba, who also promised gainful employment to all the widows, stated this at Mopol 38 in Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, while distributing cash donation, vegetable oil, as well as rice to both the widows and wives of 14 officers, who were still missing since the attack of Training School at Gwoza on August 28, 2014.
He explained that the authorities were already liaising with some institutions, especially, in overseas and other donor agencies so as to see to the education of the children left behind by the slain officers.
According to him, “I came here today to your domain to condole those of you who lost their love ones and bread winners of their family during the May 7, 2013 Alakyo clashes. I have also come to sympathise with the wives of those 14 officers who are still missing since August 28
“The death of every police officer is painful to us, particularly, when they died while on active duty. We are still hopeful, and we have not stopped the efforts to trace those officers of Gwoza attack. We will not rest, we will continue searching for them until we are able to account for them, either we found them alive or their dead,” he assured.
The police boss then promised the payment of all the entitlements of their late spouses, as government had already commenced the processing, saying “we will not forget you and we will continue to share the pains of every one of you. The welfare of our police is uppermost in my leadership”.
The IGP, therefore, announced N500, 000 each for the wives of 14 officers, who were still missing since Gwoza attack.
While giving the breakdown of the money, Mr. Abba said N200, 000 each from Police Reward Fund; while additional N200, 000 came from Police Insurance Scheme and N100, 000 each from the office of the IGP.
