Police kill 4 robbers in Owerri

The Imo State Police Command yesterday killed four suspected armed robbers that had been terrorizing the neighborhood of Nekede in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

The development came just as the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali restated the command’s determination to wipe out criminals in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, while briefing newsmen at the state command, said his monitoring team acted promptly after an intelligence report disclosing the operation of the gang members, who were allegedly robbing a shop.
Four of the five robbers involved in the operation according to Ali were killed during a gun duel with his men while one Lucky was arrested unhurt.
Similarly, the command also paraded, two students for unlawfully being in possession of a gun.
Although, the student claimed to be a member of a secret cult, saying he was using the gun to protect himself.
Another suspect who claimed to be a new student at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Chinemerem Obielu was also found in a possession of a pistol, during a stop and search at Umugwuma by vigilant police at a checkpoint around the area.
Ali , however assured the residents of the state of adequate police protection especially as they are set for a festive season, while also warning politicians to play by the rules or be dealt with severely “ I want to use this opportunity to warn the politicians to play by the rules of the game, any politician who uses thugs to disrupt rallies will be severely dealt with”
