The horses Obiano bought for the police
When www.odogwublog.com first read the piece on
one facebook account detailing how much a horse was bought and the of horses
bought by the Governor Willie Obiano administration
as well as how millions would be expended to fed them.
I did not
take it serious because the account equally wrote that the Christmas trees
decoration in major cities of the state was contracted to Obiano’s wife and
costs whopping N600 Million of Anambra tax payers money.

But until I heard the news on the state radio
ABS with Commissioner of police , Hosea Karma commending the feat during a hand over
ceremony. I don't know whether the media team of Governor Obiano sent out the news but it is now generating heat as if the public did not hear the first story as in some quarters they said 100 horses and in some 50 horses.
But I am
sure I heard 20 horses were bought for crowd control during festivities among
other things but now I saw this and I don’t know what to say than to ask you to

The original
title of this script is ‘Governor Obiano’s April Fool Joke
In a fit that could no
less be tagged as an April fools Joke, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano
has danced into an arena where his peers will wisely stay away from, getting
himself caught up in a web of political controversy that could at best dent his
future political aspirations.
Governor Obiano
reportedly doled out a whooping N85,000,000 to purchase horses at a time when
even those in the North are crying foul that there is too much wasteful
maintenance expenditure going into horses in Northern Emirates.
The report published
on elombah.com early today reported that after going to Onitsha to flag off
Christmas decorations, the contract of which was executed at the cost of over
670 Million Naira, Gov. Obiano will this evening present 100 horses to the
police in Anambra for what he called “crowd control, security and merriment.”
The Horses, which are
to be distributed by issuing five to the Governor’s Lodge, three to each of the
21 Local Government Areas in the State, fifteen for Awka, Ten for Onitsha, and
Seven for Nnewi, making a total of hundred Horses bought at NN850, 000 each,
thus N85Million in all, was reportedly transported into Awka loaded in two
Trailers from Niger Republic some days back.
The report also stated
that 1 person per Local Government went on special training to Niger in order
to learn how to take care of Horses and are back to the State.
The Governor is
expected to appoint a Special Assistant (SA) that will be in charge of the
Horses soonest.
Speaking on the
Development, Mr. Ezeana Igirigi Achusim said: "You will be surprised the
magic those horses can bring to Anambra. Look at it this way. We had lots of
problems in Anambra when we had no horses: kidnappers, APC, inadequate
healthcare, etc. Watch those problems disappear now that we have horses."
Another commentator,
Dr Dave Iloani who saw the move as a huge joke, berated the Anambra State
Government for such wasteful gesture; he said it will be a budget buster for
the state's already reduced Federal allocation especially as feeding horses is
a very expensive venture especially in the South East.
In his words
"Tell me this is a joke, Horses in Anambra State? What happened to all the
Police Outriders machines Gov Ngige and Gov Obi bought during their tenure?
"Do they realize
how expensive it is to feed horses especially in our area That will be a budget
buster for the state's already reduced allocation froe Fed as the price for
barrel of oil continues to go down and down eventually to about $50.00 per
barrel, and Naira just lost 15% of her value ($=N188,10) this week alone.
"Question is
where is the funding going to come from, and who is advising our leaders is
Gov. Obiano, The Akpokuedike na Aguleri? Senior SA Hon Primus are you in the
house? Hon Idigo, what do you guys say?
Previously it’s called
"WHITE ELEPHANT" projects; now it is going to be call "WHITE
HORSE" project in our beloved Anambra State. God have mercy. Somebody is
just conspiring to mess up our Christmas / Holiday spirits .Those Christmas
lights at Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha have done the tricks for me and I want to
keep it that way until next year 2015, God willing.
"Merry Christmas
and Happy New year to all as I sign off for the year 2014 before some of this
SPOILERS mess up my Christmas mood."
On his part, an anonymous
commentator stated that "I like to believe that is "April fool"
in December. Horses for Anambra? What in the world is that?
"The poor state
has no steady electricity, no clean drinking water anywhere, education on life
support... and no quality healthcare for the state's inhabitants. So now they
have the expertise and money to care for horses?
"OUCh!!! And our
folks are dying in poverty and sicknesses."
Whatever is Governor
Obiano's motive for purchasing these Horses, decorum is a political Capital
every politician will not want to waste, not even now that there is a growing
call for revolutionary reawakening by the Nigerian masses against mis
governance.
Governor Obiano has
spent his own on a platter of nonsense, he has danced an ugly dance and made himself
and his Horse project an April fool's joke of this and probably next century.
