Mbisiogu, Nwankwo Kanu, others bag Igbo award

The 2014 Igbo Person award scheduled to hold on January 23, 2015 will be presented by former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.

The presentation ceremony slated for Golden Gate Ikoyi, Lagos, will witness the decora­tion of Mr. Festus Mbisiogu as 2014 Igbo Person of the year.
The China-based Blue Dia­mond boss, who hails from Ideato South Local Govern­ment Area of Imo State, beat nine other nominees to clinch the award.
The Advisory/Assessment Board said Mbisiogu was se­lected in recognition of his piv­otal role in the establishment of the Nigerian Consulate in the city of Guangzhou, China, home to the largest population of Nigerians resident in China.
The board also considered his philanthropy, which brought potable water to Ideato South. There are over 45 boreholes in the local government.
The event, which will have Goddy Uwazurike, president of Aka Ikenga as special guest of honour, will also witness the presentation of an all-time Igbo personality award to former Af­rican Footballer of the Year and Nigeria’s most decorated foot­baller, Kanu Nwankwo, the Af­rican Wrestling Heavyweight Champion- Ambassaador Osita Offor (a.k.a De Ultimate Com­mander) will also be honoured for his wrestling prowess.
