The
Nasarawa State Government has dismissed death rumours on the State Governor,
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Al-Makura
had travelled abroad for medical check-up last week Wednesday.
Workers
in government offices as well as residents in Lafia, the state capital, say the
health status of Al-Makura is being protected as top officials in Nasawara have
maintained sealed lips.
The
state government has, however, sought to douse the tension that has gripped the
state.
This
is as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Yakubu Lamai, in a
statement yesterday said the Nasarawa helmsman was alive, hale and hearty.
The
terse statement reads: “We wish to use this medium to assure the entire citizens
of Nasarawa State and confirm with clarity that Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
is alive, hale and hearty and in excellent health.
“We
recognise that this is election campaign period and publicity strategists are
likely to use every available tool to gain public attention, including peddling
unfounded rumours about the governor’s health.
“Governor
Al-Makura is no stranger to political campaigns and appeals to all and sundry
to concentrate on making the ongoing campaigns and the forthcoming elections issue-based”.
