How Boko Haram Massacred Over 150 Persons In Damaturu

More than 150 people died in an attack by suspected Islamists on the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu on Dec. 1, according to a non-governmental organization that counted bodies at hospital morgues.

Ibrahim Bukar, a member of the Kano-based Network for Justice, said by phone from Damaturu, that the number of dead from the Dec. 1 attack had risen above 150.
The insurgents and the military clashed in the attack on the capital of Yobe State, three days after bombings and gunmen at a mosque killed more than 100 people in northern commercial hub of Kano.
The government of Africa’s biggest economy is struggling to contain a rebellion by the Islamist group Boko Haram, whose name roughly translates as “Western education is a sin.”
The militants have killed more than 13,000 people in the past five years, according to President Goodluck Jonathan.
On the same day as the Damaturu attack, a suicide bombing killed five people at a market in Maiduguri, the capital of neighboring Borno State.
