African champions, Nigeria will end 2014 in 43rd place in the monthly
Fifa rankings released by the world football governing body yesterday in
Zurich.
The Super Eagles have dropped one place in the latest classifications
and are now ranked as the ninth best football playing nation in Africa.
Nigeria amassed 656 points in the latest rankings.
Algeria, Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, Cape Verde
and Cameroon are the African countries ranked above Nigeria in the latest
rankings.
Former national team coach, Christian Chukwu was assistant to Dutchman,
Clemens Westerhof when Nigeria attained their highest ever position in the
rankings (fifth) and he described the latest development as “not good enough.”
“Our latest position in the rankings is not good enough but if we are to
be honest the year 2014 was not a good one for the Super Eagles,” he said.
Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands are the top
five countries, in that order, in the latest rankings.
