Burial tragedy in Calabar: 23 die in Cross River auto crash

Wailing and confusion best described the mood when tragedy occurred in Akamkpa Lo­cal Government Area of Cross River State, killing 15 peo­ple.

 The rod crash happened along Calabar-Awi-Akamk­pa Expressway of the state.

The accident happened at the early hours of yes­terday, involving a gold Picnic car and a 14-seater Hiace bus.

The Hiace bus was said to be coming from Ikom with about 18 passengers while the Picnic mini bus was carrying six passen­gers from Calabar going for a burial of one of their friends in the northern part of the state.

An eyewitness said that seven persons died on the spot, while all the six passengers in the Picnic bus and 17 pas­sengers from the bus died later.

The eyewitness, who was in another vehicle and simply gave his name as Atom, said the bus had a head on collision with the Picnic car.
