Sources said the heavily armed insurgents, numbering about 20, raided Kautikari, some 10 kilometres from Chibok town on Monday at about 8pm.
“They drove into the town in a Toyota Hilux vehicle and some motorcycles, shouting and shooting sporadically into houses. They opened fire on fleeing residents and many
were killed,” a source, who did not want his name mentioned, said.
He said at least 15 people were killed, but this figure could not be verified at press time due to breakdown of telecommunication facilities. Also, there was no reaction from the military authorities in the area as at press time.
Some residents of Chibok also said the attackers operated
till midnight, set many houses were set ablaze before
fleeing. “By the time troops came in the morning the
attackers had fled,” a resident said. He noted that many of
the residents have also fled to Chibok town after the
attack.
A security source also hinted that troops had even
mobilised to repel the attack, but could not get information
about the situation in the town “due to communication
problem.”
