It was terrible today for road users as the students
of the Open University of Nigeria located at Abagana , Njikoka local government
area of Anambra state clashed with
police men drafted to superintend their examinations. The students blocked the road leading to Awka and to Onitsha through the old road where the school is located.
Trouble www.odogwublog.com gathered started when
the police men asked the students to cue before entering the hall for their
examination and allegedly prevented some students from entering the examination
hall.
Odogwu Blog reporter could not gather why as at
press time but an Eye witness told the reporter that the students revolted against the police excesses
as it was not part of their brief , but were rebuffed by the police who went on
to harass them until they allegedly could not bear it again and went up in to
make trouble.
The police team then fired a tear gas which led to
the collapse of two students and injuring of many . The students then and
started a riot and beat up some of the police men allegedly.
As at press time the Center manager of the Open
University , Dr Chibuogwu Nnaka could not be reached to determine what the true
position was and why the students went
on rampage and the Anambra state police Public Relations Officer Uche eze’s phone was switched off as at press
time.
