Russian President, Vladmir Putin has
beat off competition from US President Barack Obama and Chinese President, Xi
Jinpin, to become Forbes magazine’s ‘Most powerful person of the year’.
Forbes made the announcement on its
official website, which means Putin has achieved the distinction for the second
year in running.
Even last year, the list announced
by Forbes had the same three names, with Putin again coming in top spot.
Forbes also remarked that Putin’s
standing in world politics would not be unhinged, despite the ongoing crisis in
Ukraine, and also maintained that his reputation would be enhanced.
The magazine also reiterated that
the United States had been responsible in losing ground in world diplomacy, and
Obama alone should not be blamed for the nation’s deteriorating relations with
other countries.
Putin has also featured in Time
magazine’s ‘100 most influential people of the world list’, and was also
honoured with British daily, The Times’ ‘Man of the Year’ award.
