Police nab 2 robbery suspects, recover ammunition, charms , Parade 9 cultists


The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command has arrested two robbery suspects that specialise in snatching vehicles from their owners around villages along the airport road.

The suspects, Mustapha Tahiru and Suleiman Umaru, were arrested by a police patrol team attached to Iddo Division, after a tip off at ACO, AMAC, when they tried to steal a car parked on its parking lot.
One of the suspects, Mustapha, is a foreigner from Niger Republic, who came to the country illegally as he had no international passport.
After their arrest, the suspects were found to be in possession of daggers and other sharp objects, ammunitions, charms, a ring and one Nokia phone.
Interestingly, Mustapha, the police described as an unrepentant thief had been convicted and jailed sometime in 2012 for a case of theft and returned to his illegal trade after his release from jail.
They confessed to have been terrorizing residents of some estates around the airport road and also engage in snatching cars parked in homes and from drivers around the homes at gunpoint.
Police say the suspects would soon be arraigned as soon as it concludes investigation into the matter.
In another development, the Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded nine suspected cultist at their headquarters along Moscow road, Port Harcourt.
 In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, the suspected cultist were arrested at about 02:00am on November 24th, 2014.
The Police got wind of their activities based on a distress call that indicated planned battle of supremacy between De-Well and Degbam cults groups at Okwuzi Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state. The quick response of the police averted the planned supremacy battle between the different cult groups. Seven suspects were arrested at the scene while others fled.
The arrested suspects are: Chinazo Amaechi, Nna Chisom, Solomon Ossai, Regimus Igwelatu, Monday Jackson, Chinonso Fordima and Tony Amanya. Items recovered from them included one pump action gun, four live cartridges, one double barrel gun, Honda jeep with registration No. IMO WER 685 FX, Toyota Camry saloon with registration No. RIVERS BER 407 AP, two laptop computers and assorted charms. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to belonging to either of the cult groups. In a similar development, on the same day, the police received information that suspected cultist were sighted with arms around the back gate of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt (RSUST) initiating new members. A team of Policemen quickly stormed the area and arrested two others; Joel Ozekume, a final year student of RSUST and Princewill Brown, a graduate of Cross River State University while others at the scene escaped. Items recovered from them included one Beretta pistol and 3 rounds of.9mm ammunition. The Police Command warned criminals to desist from criminal activities in the State and also urged citizens to be security conscious and to report suspicious activities to the police as the command was dedicated in its fight against criminals in the state.
