Following the recent defection of
its national leader to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National
Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Tuesday
appointed Anambra State Governor Willy Obiano as its new national leader and
Chairman of Board of Trustees (BOT) just as it approved the guidelines
for the conduct of its primaries to pick candidates for the 2015 elections as
released by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) last month.
In a statement issued at the end of
its meeting Tuesday in Abuja, the NEC unanimously chose Obiano to replace
former Governor Peter Obi.
The release, signed by the APGA
National Chairman, Victor Umeh and made available to newsmen in Abuja, noted
that pursuant to the mandate given on January 18, 2014 by the National
Executive Committee to the National Working Committee to fill existing
vacancies in the NWC, the NEC also appointed Alexander Amujiogu as the party’s
acting Deputy National Secretary .
Umeh noted that “having regard
to the resignation of Chief Peter Obi as the Leader and Chairman of the Board
of Trustees of APGA and his subsequent defection to the PDP and the vacancy
created thereof in the office of the leader and Chairman of the Board of
Trustees, the National Executive Committee unanimously appointed His
Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State, as the
National Leader of our great party and Chairman of the Board of Trustee (BOT).”
