President Good¬luck Jonathan has described as heinous crime, the attack on the Central Mosque in Kano, yesterday.

He has therefore directed all relief agencies and medical personnel to deploy every possible effort to assist the injured, and the general public to heed the call for the donation of blood by the hospitals, where the injured are being treated.
The President also condoled the people and government of Kano State, particularly with all the families, who lost their loved ones.
Jonathan has further direct¬ed the security agencies to launch a full scale investigation and to leave no stone unturned until all agents of terror undermining the right of every citizen to life and dignity, are tracked down and brought to justice.
He reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestation is a despicable and unjustifiable threat to our society. He reiterated the determination of the government to continue to take every step to put an end to the reprehensible acts of all groups and persons involved in acts of terrorism.
President Jonathan called on all Nigerians not to despair in this moment of great trial in the nation’s history but to remain united to confront the common enemy.
The President said he is confident that no terrorist act against fellow citizens will destroy the Nigerian spirit to remain positive, resolute and united in the quest for last¬ing peace and security in the country.
He appealed to all Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate actively with our security agencies to win the on-going war against terror.
Arewa Consultative Forum has condemned yesterday’s bomb explosion that rocked a central mosque in Kano metropolis, leaving scores dead and several others injured and described it as wicked and barbaric.
A statement is¬sued by the National Publicity Secretary of the forum, Mu-hammad Ibrahim, however, appealed to people in Kano to remain calm, and exercise restraint from taking laws into their hands. ACF noted that the recent bomb explosions in Yola, Maiduguri, Azare, Kontagora and many other towns in the North coupled with the daily killing of in¬nocent people by insurgents is very disturbing and wor¬risome. This insecurity situation that has engulfed the North is a clear manifestation of Federal Government’s in¬ability to protect the people as intelligence and equip¬ment required to contain the situation appears lacking.
intelligence sharing with security agencies and com¬munity leaders.
“ACF appeals to the Kano State Government and other state governments, where bomb explosions occurred in the last one week to provide free medical treatment to the injured. In the same vein, the Peoples Democratic Party has expressed shock over the bomb attack, and described it as “very painful.” PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement said the party was grief-stricken, when it received the news of the gruesome attack, “especially considering that the victims were harmless Nigerians, who were at the mosque to offer prayers and express their allegiance and love for the Almighty God.”
Meanwhile, Kano Central Mosque situated at Kofar Arewa within the city was earlier bombed in a three simultaneous explosions that went off on Fri¬day killing at least 64 worshippers  and injuring over 126 people who had converged on the mosque for their Ju¬mat prayers.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Sanusi N Lemo who gave insight into the casualty figure admit¬ted that many people were injured as a result of the explosions. It was however learnt that over 126 persons were injured in the multiple blasts.
The tragic explosions, which went off at about 2pm, just as the Jumat prayer was about to begin, triggered panic, pains and agony across the city.
Both the injured and the dead were moved to various health facilities in the state, particularly the nearby Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital and the Abdullahi Wase General Hospital in the state.
There were gory sights of mangled bodies and pools of blood around the area of the blast, including a huge dark smoke of explosion that bil¬lowed up into the skylines after the blasts.
Eye witnesses told Saturday Sun that they heard the firing of gunshots in the wake of the explosions, but it could not be established if the gunshots were coming from suspected insurgents.
The aftermath of the explosions was very chaotic and confusing with hundreds of worshippers including nearby residents running in different directions in search of safety.
Immediate escape from the environment of the blast was not easy as several people were running at the same time, Saturday Sun gathered.
It was reported that a suspected member of Boko Ha¬ram captured by the youths of the area was immediately set ablaze. But this could not be verified.
Angered by the blasts, the youths in the area gathered in small groups and became restive, angry at the security personnel who came to res¬cue the situation.
It took close to an hour before the security person¬nel, including soldiers , could successfully take control of the restive situation and restore order.
At the Abdullahi Wase Specialists Hospital in the city, at about 5.00pm, Sat-urday Sun observed several wounded persons who had different forms of injuries while medical workers made frantic efforts to help them.
Traffic to the hospital was also heavy as relatives of the injured persons streamed down in numbers to establish if their loved ones were affected and to sympathize with them.
Acting Police Public Relations officer, DSP Mus¬tapha Abubakar confirmed that the police have restored order in the affected area. It could be recalled that the Kano Central Mosque is lo¬cated very close to the pal¬ace of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
It is also the mosque where the monarch goes for prayers whenever he is in Kano. Luckily on this occasion, he was not in the state as he had travelled abroad a few days ago.
