Council urges FG to step-up installation of hi-tech security devices

For better security during this year’s Christmas , the Anambra Central Traditional Rulers Council has urged the Federal Government to step-up its quest to install hi-tech surveillance and security devices within strategic areas and public places.

Speaking to newsmen at Ifitedunu , Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state yesterday, the chairman of the council, Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno, noted that the current spate of insecurity in the country calls for effective investment in the ICT direction.

Ilouno said that no amount spent on securing lives and property of Nigerians would be said to be a waste by any right thinking person, adding that the heavy investment returns to the country would rightly outweigh such investment in a short period of time.

His words, ``There is no perfect security anywhere in the World; or a place where mischief makers do not exist.

``But the crux of the matter is to put things in place such as hi-tech and technological surveillance and security devices to deter these mischief makers whenever they want to carry out their dastard acts.

``Or also be in a position within the very shortest possible time track those that have done any evil act already with these hi-tech devices.

``So, we call for fast tracking of all ongoing projects and initiatives in this direction.

``While any place or city with moribund and broke down security devices should be resuscitated and made to serve it purpose,’’ he said.

The chairman, however, lauded Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra for being the first governor to invest in drone technology to monitor criminals and other activities.

``While we are also urging the governor to install CCTV cameras in strategic places and carry stakeholders along for them to do same in their private capacities,’’ he said
