The
Anambra State Government has signed a 320 million dollar Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with a private consortium, West Africa Inter-continental
Trade Center Limited, for an international market to be built at Ogbunike in
Oyi Local Government area.
While
signing the memorandum at the Governor’s Lodge at Amawbia, Governor Willie
Obiano said that the project, which was at its starting point, would create
over 6,000 job opportunities and would provide viable outlets for distributing
and marketing goods mass produced by the industrial hub in the state.
The
Governor, who charged up the occasion with a gallant entry, stated that a
similar market would also be established in Umunze, Oruma South Local
Government Area, explaining that the main market with its challenge of old age
necessitated the undertaking of the present project.
The
Chairman of Anambra State Promotion and Protection Investment Agency, ANSIPPA,
under whose auspices the project was attracted, said that the market would be
made up of a shopping mall, industrial park, educational and medical facilities
as well as an entertainment centre.
Similarly,
the leader of the team, Mr. Obiora Anyaralu, and another senior member of the
consortium, Dr. Adedeji Ameh, said that the second phase of the project would
assist the Governor in achieving his vision towards elevating the state to an
enviable height.
With the
signatures of all parties involved appended, thus sealing the deal,
expectations have risen that in 42 months, an international trade centre must
have been built in Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, as
the state heads for a digital era in its trade and business activities.
