PATRICK IFEANYI UBAH: MAN WITH MIDAS TOUCH
*crusading for good governance at TAN
From Chuks Collins, Awka
Until the 2013 Anambra state Governorship poll, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah was very popular only in the corporate world of Oil/Gas sector business. Not much had been heard of him in the sharks infested murky political water of Nigeria.
Hitherto he was seen as being too quiet, gentle and comfortable to venture into the smearing, dog-eat-dog political corridors. But when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the time-table for the Nov 16, 2013 Anambra governorship election with his name as a candidate under the Labour Party, that was when many fully believed he was serious in contesting, and in fact was one of the major contenders.
Ubah, fondly called “EbubeChukwuuzo” meaning “Placing God First” in all things who has been in business for more than two decades has business interests that extended to Oil & Gas, Jetty Development, Bonded Terminal, Truck Park facilities, Telecommunication, Real Estate and General Merchandise.
Born into the modest family of late Mr and Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah of Umuanuka, Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra state, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, a man of humble beginning, good natured, amiable and good-natured personality holds a B.Sc in International Relations and married to Dr Uchenna Ubah, a graduate of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira and the marriage is blessed with five children.
The visionary Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited, no doubt is an ambitious business mogul who from the very day he joined the oil and gas sector business, chose to distinguish himself and the company creditably.
And by dint of hard work, personal conviction to succeed, visionary leadership and doggedness and the never-say-die attitude of a typical Nnewi businessman he has in a matter of 10 years, between 2003 and 2013 taken the Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited to an enviable position. The group has become a dominant leader in the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry. As the Promoter and Chief Executive of Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited,he also sits on the board of several other companies as Chairman. They include:
Knoll &Hachfer Engineering Co Ltd
Chevron Oronite& Chemical Co Ltd
Hero Communications Ltd
First Nigeria Independent Oil Co Ltd
Commodity Giants Nigeria Limited
Capital Group Congo S.a.rl. in the Congo DR
Oil Force Nigeria Limited
Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation
Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria(TAN)
Dr Ubah was profiled by the Oxford Brooks Magazine as one of the “Forty under Forty 2009”, that is, the top forty young Nigerian business leaders under the age of forty. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has received numerous awards and honours both in Nigeria and abroad in recognition of his leadership qualities and outstanding performance in the oil and gas industry.
In appreciation of his creative leadership, dynamism, resourcefulness as well as contribution in human capital development, he was conferred with an Honourary Doctor of Philosophy in Critical and Creative Thinking by the prestigious Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA. He has been actively involved in top flight business management for over two decades with vast experience in international business and has attended several local and international courses and seminars in leadership and business management.
An avid philanthropist and a motivator par excellence. In recognition of the need to serve humanity, give back to the society, provide succor to the needy, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah has established an Scholarship Foundation that gives students free University education, the first of its kind in the South-East, particularly in Nnewi; sunk many boreholes for his community, installed electricity transformers, built roads, engages in constant repair/grading of community roads and by the grace of God Almighty, the only large hearted man in the whole of the country to provide free fuel to the popular “Okada” riders and commercial Bus drivers every Monday in all his filling stations.
Through his scholarship scheme, which has produced more than one thousand beneficiaries about 60% of whom have graduated and are currently gainfully employed in some of his companies, Ubah has restored hopes to many families and hitherto disconsolate students.
The foundation also runs a medical scheme that has brought succor to hundreds of people in the state afflicted with various diseases. This is in addition to running a profound welfare scheme for widows and unemployed youths in the state. “Ifeanyi Ubah has touched the lives of so many people in Anambra state.
For his immense contributions to education/economic development of the nation and entrepreneurial ingenuity, the Federal University of Technology, Owerri also awarded him Honourary Doctor of Management Technology (DMT).
Since after the governorship election has come and gone, he has since moved on, returning to his corporate world. But as a near restive critical thinker, late last year he registered TAN as a multi-faceted Non-governmental organization(NGO) to promote good governance. It consists of individuals of impeccable character fostering the continuation of transformation by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ). The Group is comprised of professional men and women, youths, businessmen and women, artists, artisans, sportsmen and women, physically challenged persons, widows associations, Christian, Muslim and native religious groups, community, traditional and market leaders, opinion molders and analysts, farmers, school teachers, trade unions and all masses of Nigeria committed to the ideals of good and quality leadership, order, unity, peace and progress of our nation under the Constitution.
Its mission was to assist and be part of the transformation of the second 100years of the existence of Nigeria into a nation that will visibly transcend the threshold of under-development, overcome the challenges of diversity and enthrone our collective VISION of a nation where good governance, natural justice, equity and good conscience become the hallmarks of quality leadership which is in conformity with the status and standards of other developed nations of the World.

As its executive chairman, Dr Ubah's outing with TAN has clearly changed the entire political calculations of the opposition to President Goodluck Jonathan. The unprecedented success story of TAN, especially its ambitious 7-leg nationwide mega rallies in each of the nation's six geopolitical zones with the grand finale in Abuja last Saturday, Oct 18, Ubah has shown again that with commitment and dedication, Nigerians can move mountain any day.
The opposition, particularly the All Progressives Congress and even some black legs within the PDP had become visibly hysterical after failed attempts with all tricks to derail and stop the rallies when they discovered it was gathering so much air, momentum and jacking up fast the popularity rating of President Jonathan.
Today, all men of goodwill, Women for Change and Development Initiative led by Princess Rabi Ibrahim, the Association of Nigerians in Diaspora led by Mr Chris Udechukwu, the PDP, different bodies of professionals, traders, market associations, community/religious leaders of all faith, artisans, various interest groups, etc have continued to send messages of commendation to Ubah for TAN.
They specifically thank him for restoring hope to the present administration, having raised more than 17 million supporters who are all potential voters in the coming 2015 presidential election for Jonathan. Ubah is indeed a man with the Midas touch.
