The former Anambra state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural
Development, Chief Godson Ezenagu has frowned at what he described as
poor representation of the Awka-North/South Federal Constituency at
the National Assembly.
Development, Chief Godson Ezenagu has frowned at what he described as
poor representation of the Awka-North/South Federal Constituency at
the National Assembly.
Chief Ezenagu disclosed this during his declaration ceremony to
contest for the Federal House Representative seat in next year’s
general elections. He said that the constituency was in a state of
melancholy, observed that the constituency does not reflect any
federal presence and that he was on a mission to rescue the people
from the grip of poor quality representation at the national assembly.
Chief Ezenagu who hails from Mgbakwu in Awka-north local government
area of Anambra state maintained that he has traversed the nooks and
crannies of the constituency but to his dismay constituency projects
were a mirage in the area According to him Oba-Ofemili, Amanuke and
some other communities in Awka-north and South federal constituency
lacked motorable roads as well as some other social amenities that
should have been attracted to the constituency.
Chief Ezenagu further said he was not contented with the quality of
representation of the constituency at the lower chamber of the
national assembly, stated that the plight of his people in Awka-North
and South local government areas spurred him into the decision he took
to go to the federal house of representatives in order to bring the
desired change in the constituency .
Declaring his aspiration to represent his constituency at the national
assembly in 2015 at Barn-Hill hotel Awka where a mammoth crowd
gathered and listened with avid attentiveness to his policy statements
at the weekend , chief Ezenagu assured his people that his entry into
the federal house of representatives would be a water-shed as he
maintained that he has all it takes to compel the federal government
to respond proactively to the infrastructural needs of his people .
The ex-commissioner said that time has gone when people claimed to
represent their constituencies at various levels of governance but on
the contrary enriched themselves at the expense of the people they
claimed to represent .He observed that roads were non-existent in Awka
–North but equally assured the people that if he eventually wins the
election next year , he would not only turn the fortunes of the people
around but would also convene town hall meetings every 4 months as
feed-back mechanism as well as elect representatives in all the wards
that comprises Awka-North / South federal constituency to be able to
ascertain the felt-needs of the people and respond to them accordingly
.
The house of reps aspirant contesting on the platform of the All
Progressive Grand Alliance [ APGA ] further explained that his policy
thrust would be to always consult with his constituents to find out
what their needs and agitations are as well as address them
holistically .
Some of those who witnessed the official declaration of chief Godson
Chukwuma Ezenagu to run for the federal house of reps in 2015 also
bared their minds. One of such persons was the chairman of Awka-South
local government area Hon.Prince Azubuike Iloh who said that APGA
accords level playing field to anyone who deems it fit to contest on
the platform. Hon. Iloh also emphasized that Awka-North / South
required an individual who knows what democracy dividends entails and
not someone who will go and represent himself or herself at the
federal house of reps.
The state vice chairman of APGA chief Emeka Nwosu acknowledged that
the former commissioner for agriculture and rural development,
revamped the agric sector in Anambra which he noted has given him an
edge over other aspirants .Chief Nwosu expressed the belief that if
given the opportunity , chief Godson Ezenagu would perform creditably
well at the national assembly come 2015 .
Leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Awka-North / South
local government areas chief Austin Ndigwe on his part decried what he
termed self-aggrandizement amongst those who had represented the
constituency in the past .Chief Ndigwe observed that nothing has been
done by the representatives to improve the lots of the people who
voted them in , in the first instance .The APGA scribe equally pointed
out that the former governor Mr.Peter Obi betrayed the party following
his recent elopement to another political platform adding that in no
distant time APGA will make its position on the matter public which he
said will not come without a peaceful demonstration at Ojukwu’s
graveside at Nnewi .
Chief Cosmos Chukwuemeka Okonkwo chairman of Awka-North local
government area said his intention to contest in next year’s election
was timely as expectations were high .Chief Okonkwo described the
ex-agric commissioner as an astute politician and equally expressed
optimism that Chief Godson Ezenagu would win in the primaries and
thereafter clinch the ticket for the federal house of representatives
come 2015 . He therefore pinpointed roads as the most essential needs
in Awka-North and South local government areas and urged the house of
reps aspirant to prevail on federal and state governments to provide
the aforesaid infrastructure in the area should he triumph in the
forthcoming general elections .
A house of assembly aspirant chief Joe Nwaegwu who attended the
declaration ceremony equally observed that the house of reps aspirant
has done well for his people to earn their votes in next year’s
election .According to chief Nwaegwu the Independent National
Electoral Commission [ INEC ] has begun to make elections in the
country free and fair which he noted would be in favour of chief
Ezenagu whom he said would win the election landslide if it was devoid
of malpractices .Chief Nwaegwu also added that it is expected that he
would address all the problems in the constituency that have lingered
over the years .He said despite the fact that Awka-North / South
federal constituency have had 4 representations , he was convinced
that the former commissioner would make a significant difference at
the national assembly especially as it relates to road construction in
the constituency .
