Murna Obiekwe VS Majid Michel: Who Is The Better ‘Soft Porn’ Role Interpreter?

Before now, soft porn movies were a taboo in Nigeria. In fact, playing nude and steamy roles was a no go area except of course, for the extra daring!

However the last couple of years have witnessed a tremendous boom and these daring artistes are becoming the most sought after as soft porn movies, which hitherto, used to be smuggled into the country from Europe and other African countries, is fast taking over Nollywood. In fact, the new belief is that unless a movie has some smut, it cannot hit the box office.

And films that have stretched censorship barriers include Catch Me If You Can, Men in Love, Dirty Secret, Deadly Sex and Bold 5 Ladies among many others thus rebranding Nollywood as a soft porn haven.

This week’s Showdown showcases two daring actors, Majid Michel and Murna Obiekwe, as the public determines who is the better soft porn role interpreter.

MAJID MICHEL:

Actor, Majid Michel aka Shaker, is the son of a Lebanese father and a Ghanaian mother. He was born in Accra, Ghana, and joined a modelling company, Super Modelling Agency, after he finished school. He earned the nickname, Shaker, after starring in the popular television series entitled Things We Do for Love. Following his impressive outing in Things We Do for Love, he landed male lead for his debut movie, Divine Love. In 2008, he played lead in Agony of Christ, a movie which received numerous AMAA nominations. Some of his movie credits include Silent Scandals, Being Mrs Elliot and The Beast to mention a few. Majid won the 2012 AMAA Awards for Best Actor in A Leading Role, 2010 ZAFAA Awards for Best Actor, 2010 Best (Ghanaian) Actor in A Leading Role and Best Actor NAFCA Awards 2011 among others. 

MURNA OBIEKWE:

He first hit limelight after he wore female undies in Sanga Entertainment’s Fumble. However, his roles in Dirty Secret and Men in Love transformed the career of fair complexioned Nollywood Bad Boy, Murna Obiekwe and his popularity spread like wild fire! His outing in Men in Love, alongside Tonto Dike and John Dumelo has rated as explosive! So too was his character in Dirty Secret, which also featured the likes of Tonto Dike and Jibola Dabo among other. Some of his film credits include Initial Damage, Songs of Sorrow and Enemies in Love to mention a few.

…And the people’s verdict: 

Majid is better off – Phina Madu, undergraduate 

My thinking is that Murna is determined to hit Nollywood A-list status at all cost. For years, he struggled in vain to become a star but it was not easy so the guy chose the infamous path of playing soft porn roles, which seems to have worked for him. Meanwhile, in terms of role interpretation, Majid is better-off.

Murna is better – Austin Onyeka, fuel station manager 

Murna Obiekwe is better than Majid in interpreting soft porn roles. Sometimes, Majid seems to over-act his lines. Murna was great in Why do Men Cheat and Dirty Secret.

Majid is fast paced – Ebere Anyika, undergraduate 

Both Murna and Majid are good in interpreting soft porn roles. The only different is that while Murna is naturally a slow actor, Majid is a fast paced actor; he is very athletic in acting as opposed to Murna’s sluggish style.

I think the profile of the artistes and your introduction is meant to educate Nigerians and fans of the artistes while the verdict is meant to counsel the artistes because it portrays people’s honest views about them. So, if I were in their shoes, I would make Showdown my weekly pill in order to find out areas that I need to improve upon. Please, keep it up.

Give it to Michel Majid – Jeniffer Francis, wannabe singer 

There is no basis to compare Murna with Majid because Majid is usually so raw. Murna could act more daring soft porn roles but for cultural restrictions in our clime. However, Ghanaians seem to have a more flexible culture. So, judging from their works so far, Majid should carry the day.

Murna most daring – Seun Oladimeji, teacher 

I have not seen much of Majid’s raw movies. But as for Murna, I think his most daring outings were in Dirty Secrets and Men in Love. I had to blink severally while watching those movies to make sure that I was really in Nigeria and that I was actually watching a Nigerian movie because they appeared too extreme to be from this part of the world.

Porn-free blockbusters still possible – Yinka Adebanjo, accountant 

One thing that movie makers seem to have failed to realise is that it is still very possible to do world class films devoid of nude and steamy scenes and still hit it big. An instance is a certain Indian television series that has been running on ONTV for months entitled Pavita Rishta, which I have been following for months and I am yet to spot a single nude scene in it. The way people rush home or even shut their daily businesses to watch it every afternoon proves that a film can still make waves without nude scenes.

Count me out of Shamelessness

So, of all the topics in the world, you are asking me to be part of shamelessness? Please count me out! I am a Christian and I hate hearing the word ‘soft porn’ not to talk of contributing to determining who the better porn actor is. My advice to you and those who delight in watching porn is that you people should repent now or perish!

Majid Michel more endowed

Majid Michel is a talented actor who likes to go the extra mile while playing his roles be it soft porn or any other. He is more endowed than Murna. I’m even surprised that you are pairing them. Both artistes are raw in real life but as regards soft porn role interpretation, it’s Majid.

Murna not a star yet – Princess Ify Agunwa, businesswoman 

If acting porn roles is what it will take Murna to become a star, then let him do more of it because he has been toiling for so long to become one to no avail. Although some sections of the media now address him as a star but truth is that he is not yet there even though some of the soft porn roles he did only helped him to hit the limelight. He tried so hard while in Enugu to become a star. But now that he has found love in taking on soft porn roles, he may just be on the brink of hitting stardom.

I like Murna –Wale Akintunde, economist 

I like Murna and I prefer him to Majid. Apart from his mean face, he also has the better voice. I also like his acting style, which is much better than Michel’s. And as far as I’m concerned, he was superlative in Men in Love and Dirty Secrets.

Murna, Majid are professionals

I think that those criticizing and condemning Majid Michel and Murna Obiekwe are ignorant of what their profession entails. All the roles that they interpret in movies are only make-belief and do not imply that they live what they act. People should support them rather than condemn them.

I like Majid Michel because he is a core professional. In fact, all men should hail him for professionally demystifying those body parts that women usually hold in high esteem. For Majid, female boobs and buttocks or even their oil wells are just like every other body parts as he usually fondles and turns them upside down while acting. He is better than Murna. But that is not to say in any way that Murna isn’t a fantastic actor. He is also great in soft porn roles but not in the same league with Majid.

Murna is more daring than Michel in soft porn interpretation. And one thing about him is that he gives no damn about the consequences of being an extremely raw actor. All he wants is his pay packet which will put food on his table at the end of the day.

I do not know both Murna and Majid much. But judging from the once viral obscene photo where Murna was caught fondling the bare boobs of an actress in the most reckless manner is enough to prove wrong, whoever says that Murna is a saint. And coupled with his role in Dirty Secret, I think the guy is raw beyond limits.

Majid is Ghollywood’s baddest boy – Anita Gold, corporate agency executive 

If you were to watch some of Majid’s works where he played nude roles and what he did with babes’ in those films, you would agree with me that he is the baddest Ghollywood actor. You know their government doesn’t restrict them in Ghana like they do in Nigeria and they enjoy premium flexibility in their industry as against what obtains here. Majid does whatever he likes with boobs and butts of Ghanaian actresses in the name of acting.
