Monarch Donates 20 Computers and accessories worth N1.5 Million To primary schools: urges parents to be role models, encourage wards to go to school

The Traditional Ruler of Ifitedunu Community in Anambra, Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno, has appealed to parents to show practical positive example of hard work and encourage their wards to go to school.

Ilouno said this on Thursday in Ifitedunu community near Onitsha after delivering 20 computer sets and its accessories to four primary schools in his community at his palace.

The items, which are worth over N1.5 million, were handed over to the traditional ruler by Ifitedunu people living in the United States (US).

The monarch noted that it was not enough to blame the youths when the parents and older generation do not invest or show keen interest in the up-bringing and future betterment of the children today.

``The reason for doing this is simple, if you go out of this community and you go overseas, from the airport to any organization you want to visit, they would present you with computers.

``If you go to the airport, you serve serve yourself to get a ticket, nobody gives you a ticket, the machines are there.

``You go and serve serve yourself; and if you don’t know how to use the computer definitely, you cann’t serve yourself, you cannot get a ticket except you beg somebody to come and do it and you look stupid.

``And some people would be wondering this man, begging me to come and give him a ticket.

``This is because the children over there start learning about these things from childhood; so we want to ensure our people are not left out.

``This is modern age, this is computer age and I think that it is not only enough to say your child don’t know anything.

``Provide him with all necessary equipment and leave him to either grow or fall,’’ he said.

Ilouno, who is also the Chairman of Anambra Central Traditional Rulers Council, said that the traditional institution would continue to support Anambra government’s educational drives.

On the computer sets, the monarch noted that it had been loaded with e-learning software in all subjects offered at the primary school for the benefit of the pupils as well as their teachers.

Earlier, the Chairman of Dunukofia Council Area, Mr Chukwudi Okeke, thanked Ifitedunu people in the Diaspora for such a gesture and their positive thought towards developing their community.

Okeke said that the council would further assist in powering up the schools for continuous and uninterrupted use of the computer sets for the purpose of the donation to be met.

Responding, Mrs Nkechi Okeke, the Headmistress of Ozala Primary School, Ifitedunu, who spoke on behalf of the schools, thanked the people in the Diaspora for the gesture.

``We would protect it, make judicious use of it and send a letter to our brothers and sisters in the US for these wonderful and thoughtful donations,’’ the headmistress said.

The items included: 20 computer sets, 20 UPS, four medium-sized generating sets, four printers, four scanners and N240,000 cash, which was divided among the four primary schools.
