Despite pleas by prominent Ekiti
people, including traditional rulers and religious leaders that the All
Progressives Congress should let peace reign in the State, APC lawmakers met
with some party leaders again in a hotel in Akure yesterday on how to frustrate
the new government of Governor Ayodele Fayose through the House of Assembly,
sources have said.
The APC lawmakers were said to be
adamant on their plan to either impeach Fayose or make the state ungovernable
for him.
The Ekiti Movement for Good
Governance (EMGG), in a statement by its Secretary, Dr Abiodun Aina, said
Ekiti people would resist any attempt to prevent Fayose from governing the
state for the duration of his four-year-tenure.
Aina who said the owner of the hotel
where the clandestine meeting was held last night confirmed that the APC
lawmakers slept in the hotel and left early yesterday, adding that the
lawmakers ran to Akure to hold the meeting because they knew that they were
working against Ekiti people.
A leader of the APC, who came from
Lagos was said to have assured the lawmakers of enough funds to prosecute the
agenda, tagged “Operation Blockade.”
Apart from using the House of
Assembly to frustrate Fayose’s administration, part of the agenda of the
Operation Blockade was to step up criminal activities like armed robberies and
kidnapps in the state.
Meanwhile, reactions have continued
to trail the APC legislators’ impeachment plot as youths under the aegis of the
National Youth Council threatened to resist any attempt to impeach the governor.
Chairman of the Youth Council, Comrade Adedamola Gbenga said youths in the
state would embark on a peaceful demonstration against the lawmakers tomorrow.
In his own reaction, a Peoples
Democratic Party senatorial aspirant, Hon Mrs Fatima Raji Rasaki warned the
APC lawmakers to desist from any act capable of throwing Ekiti into chaos.
She said the legislators should see
themselves as Ekiti State legislators, not APC lawmakers. Also, market women
in Ekiti State under the aegis of the Council of Iyalojas and Iyalajes have
dismissed people planning to frustrate Fayose’s administration as enemies of
the state.
Speaking through the Iyaloja of
Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs) Bisi Okunmolale, the market women said they were
solidly behind the governor, noting that no right thinking Ekiti indigene
should do anything against the popular wish of the people.
