Tammy Danagogo, the Sports Minister
and Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) expressed displeasure towards
the recent poor performance of the Super Eagles at the African Nations Cup
(AFCON) qualifiers.
This is contained in a statement
issued by Ehidiame Omorodion, media officer to the minister.
The statement said that Danagogo
described the 1-0 defeat by Sudan on Saturday as unacceptable.
He said that Nigerians expected a
better performance in subsequent matches.
It stated that the minister charged
the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the coaching crew and players to ensure
that such lackluster performance by the team must not occur again.
“The coaching crew and the NFF must
re-strategise to ensure that the team improves on its performance and pick up a
ticket for the Nations Cup next year,” the minister said.
The statement said that Danagogo
also pleaded for immense support from fans for the second leg game against
Sudan in Abuja National Stadium on Oct. 15.
“The fans need to support and show
patriotism by staying by the team and ensure that they clinch the ticket to the
2015 AFCON tournament in Morocco,” Danagogo said.
According to the statement, the
minister, however, commended the Super Falcons for starting their African Women
championship on a winning note.
He stressed the need for the team
improve with every game. (NAN)
