Iliya told the News Agency of
Nigeria on Friday in Lafia that the PDP remained the party to beat in the 2015
general elections.
He said 10 aspirants were vying for
the three senatorial seats, while 20 others indicated interest to contest the
five House of Representatives positions.
He said: “Despite the fact that the
PDP is not controlling the present government in the state, people are still
eager and anxious to contest election in our party.
“This is a clear indication that PDP
is the most popular and acceptable party in the state.”
Illiya, however, said the party was
working assiduously towards consensus amongst all the aspirants, to avoid
intra-party squabble.
Iliya expressed the optimism that
the party would achieve consensus among the aspirants before the date of the primaries.
He said that the party was poised to
conduct free, fair and transparent primary elections that would be acceptable
to all.
Iliya also urged party supporters
not to relent in their efforts by ensuring that it recaptured the governorship
seat in the state in 2015.
He urged members of the party to
come out enmass at the appropriate time to collect their Permanent Voter Cards
to earn them the power to change the government.
