Was it an act
of political witch-hunt by Gov. Willie Obiano against his political opponents,
was Gov. Obiano ill-advised or was it done under the disguise of the Governor’s
“Operation Kpochapu” kidnappers and robbers out of business in Anambra State?
The story
of the demolition of the 40 years old Ekesons Motor Transportation hub
located on Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha was initially reported by Pamela Eboh in
June 17, 2014. Please see the picture of the demolition and the report
below.
Gov.
Willie Obiano’s total demolition of Ekesons Motors Transportation hub on June
7, 2014, under the disguise of “operation kpochapu” remains bizarre and
questionable for the following reasons:
1.
Did Gov. Obiano have any proof that the 68 years old Chief Eugene Ojukwu, owner
and chairman of Ekesons Motors Agency, Ltd for the past 40 years, was or is a
kidnapper or a robber, to warrant the crippling of his transportation business
empire?
2.
If Gov. Obiano determined that Chief Eugene Ojukwu was or is in the kidnapping
or robbery business, why did he cripple his transportation business only without
getting him arrested for kidnapping or robbery, as one would expect under the
governor’s operation kpochapu?
3. Did Gov. Obiano have any proof that
Ekesons Motors Transportation hub which has been in the same location on Upper
Iweka Road for over 33 years, was or is used by kidnappers and robbers, to
warrant its demolition?
4. If so, has Gov. Obiano ordered the arrest
of any kidnapper, robber or hoodlum on the property of Ekesons Motors
Transportation hub to warrant the demolition of his transportation business?
5. Four other transportation businesses are
located around the vicinity of Ekesons Motors Transportation hub.
interestingly, it is only Ekesons Motors station that has a police post located
on its property for higher security, toilet facility for passengers, resting
area for passengers in transit and is open 24 hours. Why did Gov. Obiano
target and pick only Ekesons Motors to put out of business?

State for responding to her when she called her a prostitute”.
If
there is any truth in the above quote, does it mean that Gov. Willie Obiano may
be using his office to cripple the businesses and livelihood of his opponents
under the cover of “operation kpochapu” kidnappers and robbers out of business?
The
demolished Ekesons Motors Transportation hub is also the business location of
E. Ekesons Bros Nigeria Ltd and Ekesons Courier Services, Ltd. The demolition
caused the businesses a loss of at least 5.2 billion naira in property and
merchandise damages including 4 missing luxury busses. The business
generated an average of 1.4 million naira daily. Since the senseless
demolition and crippling of Ekesons Motors Transportation hub on June 7, 2014,
by Gov. Obiano, the aging chairman, Chief Eugene Ojukwu, has been subjected to
unbearable mental and emotional turmoil as he watched the demolition of his 40
years old transportation empire reduced to rubbles by our powerful Gov. Willie
Obiano.
Gov.
Obiano is supposed to be the governor of all citizens of Anambra State and not
the governor of APGA. Gov. Obiano is supposed to protect the lives and
properties of all citizens of Anambra State and not only those of his friends
and APGA members. Anambra State gubernatorial election is over and Gov.
Obiano is supposed to unite every citizen of Anambra State irrespective
of who they may have voted for during the election. No one is supposed to
live in fear of his/her life and property because he or she supported Obiano’s
political opponent during the election. The reign of terror and
intimidation should not be tolerated anywhere in Anambra State.
Gov.
Obiano needs to explain to us why he ran the 40 years old Ekesons Motors
Agency, Ltd out of business and caused him billions of naira in damages.
If there is any truth in Johnson Eze’s report of August 19, 2014, then Gov.
Obiano needs to explain to us why his wife threatened to deal with Hon.
Uche Ekwunife, whom she said she would crumble her business in Anambra State
for responding to her when she called her a prostitute.

Traders in the commercial city of Onitsha have continued
to count their losses weeks after the demolition of the controversial Ekesons
Motor Park in the popular Upper Iweka area of the town. Governor Willie Obiano
maintains that the exercise was meant to rid the city of hoodlums.
The traders,
who said the matter was pending at the Federal High Court, Awka, before the
demolition by the state government’s special task force, said that they have
been finding life difficult since the demolition took place.
According to
them, it was heart-rending seeing hoodlums having a free day looting and
carting away their wares while the demolition was going on.
Mr. Simon
Okoye, who claimed ownership of two shops in the market, said: “The demolition
took us by surprise because the park has been a subject of litigation and the
court had even given an order restraining the government or its agents from
disrupting the business of Ekeson Group who are the owners of the park
“We were
surprised to see over 50 Task Force members demolishing all the structures,
including our corporate office.
“They chased
us away and even towed our buses to an unknown destination and cordoned off the
entire place as hoodlums had a free day. “The hoodlums carted away cartons of
motor parts as the demolition was going on.”
Counsel to
Chief E. E. Ojukwu and E. Ekeson Motors Agencies Ltd., Mr. Fidelis Mbadugha of
A.N Anyemene (SAN) Chambers, described the demolition as a clear contempt of
court.
Meanwhile,
Governor Obiano has reiterated the determination of his government to rid the
state of criminals so as to sanitise Anambra State.
Governor
Obiano, who spoke when he visited the demolition site, said that the exercise
was part of the on-going plan to create a conducive environment in the state so
as to attract investors.
