breaking the traditional kola nut at Nnewi High School during the Ofia olu 2014
The traditional ruler of Nnewi community,
Igwe Kenneth Orizu is embattled over allegation of selling Nkwo Nnewi Triangle
reports odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com.
Read
Orient Daily’s report on that . The annual “Afia Olu festival celebrated by
Nnewi indigenes to signify the end of farming season and mark the eating of new
yam usually celebrated together by all the four quarters in Nnewi this year
turned sour following allegations and accusations against some top notches of
the town of selling the Nkwo Nnewi triangle to the state government where a
shopping centre is now being constructed.
This
necessitated the low keyed celebration of the festival this year as crisis has
engulfed the once peaceful town.
The Nkwo Nnewi triangle according to
sources is the ancestral square where the Nnewi people gather to celebrate
important functions hold meetings where important decisions concerning the
welfare and future of Nnewi are taken.
According to Orient Daily sources, following allegations and accusations of sell
out of the Nkwo Nnewi triangle, the celebration of this year’s “Afia Olu”
festival was shifted simultaneously to the four quarters that make up Nnewi
town thus creating crisis and disaffection among the people.
Orient
Daily further gathered that because this year’s “Afia Olu” festival was not
celebrated at a central place which is usually the Nkwo Nnewi triangle, the
festival lost it’s glamour, pomp and pageantry as the federating four quarters
of Nnewi chose to celebrate it on individual basis.
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. K.O.N.
Orizu 111, (JP, CON) while breaking the traditional kola nut as well as
delivery his message from the throne at the ceremony held at Nnewi High School
play ground told Nnewi people that he did not know who gave out their united
spot of land popularly called Nkwo-Triangle to Anambra State Government to
build the shopping mall project.
He regretted on the insinuation from
certain quarters of Nnewi against him for plotting to sell out the piece of
land which he described as totally false.
According to him, “I returned from a
trip abroad and learnt that Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi quarters have decided
to celebrate the annual Afia-olu festival in their different quarters because
of Government take over of Nkwo Triangle”.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Orizu pleaded
for peace to reign in the industrial town and declared that hence-forth the
Afia-olu celebration should continue to take place at Nnewi High School till
further notice.
Our correspondent visited Uruagu,
Umudim and Nnewichi and found out that the event was happily celebrated in the
palaces of Obi Uruagu, Obi Umudim and Obi Nnewichi with the Highnesses Obi A.C.
Obi (Ogidi); Obi B.C. Okafor (Ama-ukwu); Obi G. Onyekaba (Obidiugwu) on their
respective thrones.
Orient daily gathered from all the
quarters of Nnewi that nobody knew who sold or gave out Nkwo-Triangle to Anambra
State Government to build the shopping mall at the centre of the town. Who did
it? The question is from every Nnewi indigene.
