The
Commissioner for Education in Anambra State, Professor Kate Omenugha says the
present administration is putting measures in place to ensure conducive
learning environment.
Speaking
on Forum, a Radio Nigeria Purity FM Awka Audience Participatory Programme,
Professor Omenugha noted that in view of this, about three thousand teachers
were recently employed and deployed to rural areas with adequate financial
incentives given to encourage them and boost their morale as well as productivity.
Professor
Omenugha stated that government had commenced renovation of infrastructure in
schools stressing that more than hundred schools were being given a facelift.
The
Commissioner also highlighted that more laptops were distributed to over three
hundred private schools in the state while generating sets were accompanying
them to provide electricity.
She
remarked that Anambra State would be among the top three schools in the country
with the efforts being put in place, stressing that teachers welfare had
remained a priority of the State Government.
The
Commissioner further noted that arrangements were in top gear to bring back
what she called practical hygiene in schools in view of the Federal Government directive
to re-open schools on the twenty-second of this month to forestall any outbreak
of epidemic or the dreaded Ebola virus disease.
In
this regards she said each school would be provided with a borehole even if it
improvised for washing of hands as well as generating sets.
Callers
to the programme, Mr Onyeka Ikechukwu from Ekwulobia and Mr Chuka Okereke noted
with satisfaction level of performance of the state’s students in external
examinations.
Also
contributing, Mr Mr Austin Nwabunwanne from Umuoba-Anam and Thomas Anumudu from
Omor called for reduction in the school fees to enable parents pay for their
children while Pual Okeke from Ekwulobia and Chinonso Nwankwo from Orumba North
commended the State Government’s efforts in education and appealed for the
establishment of school at Amaokpala community.
