Former Speaker of House
of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, yesterday, told leaders
of Peoples Democratic party, PDP, in the state, that he had no governorship
ambition for now, contrary to expectations.
While addressing party members at
the party’s Secretariat, in Abeokuta, after he paid a courtesy visit to the
state PDP executives, Bankole hinted that the PDP had been mobilising
members across the state for the forthcoming Permanent
Voters’ Cards, PVCs, distribution by the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, as part of efforts to boost PDP political chance in 2015
general elections.
Speaking on PDP’s loss in 2011,
Bankole said: “We are not the only party with issues, we have learnt our lesson
in a very hard way, especially with the results of the last elections in 2011.
We don’t wish that to happen to us, that is why some of us are going round the
state to make sure that we reconcile as many members as possible.”
Vanguard, however, gathered
that the former speaker was at the party secretariat to interface with the
party leaders ahead of the 2015 governorship election, despite the claim
by the state party chairman that the party had not “anointed
any candidate for governorship.
The source told Vanguard in
confidence that, the party leadership had chosen Bankole to be the party flag
bearer, but, did not want to impose him on the party.
