How Ogun State Residents Trek And Lament Daily Over Bridge Construction At Alagbole-Akute

Residents of Alagbole-Akute, Ogun State have lamented what they call “an unfair treatment” as the road leading to Ojodu Berger area of Lagos has been closed for the past three months, following construction of a new bridge on the said road.

The construction of the new bridge has necessitated the closure of the Alagbole-Akute road thereby stopping the passage of cars, tricycles, and Okadas. Commuters now have to walk from one end of the bridge to the other to get a bus to continue their journey.
A resident, Mr. Kola adesina, who spoke with our correspondent said, “I appreciate the fact that the Ogun State government is constructing a new bridge for us after many years of appeal, but there ought to have been an alternative route for residents. The other roads available are simply not motorable. We have cars, but we can’t drive them. We simply have to resort to trekking. It is not fair.”
“I hate the fact that I have to walk in the mud. Before I get to the office, I’ll be dirty,” another commuter laments.
“I understand the fact that they have to disallow the passage of cars, but let them create a route for Okadas. Having to trek from one end of the bridge to the other is just too stressful,” says a pregnant mother, holding her two kids, as she treks on her way to her workplace at Ikeja.
She added, “By the time I get to work, all my energy is drained and I’ll have to take a five-minute nap.”
