Self-acclaimed NFF president Chris
Giwa was stopped by security operatives from parading himself as the country’s
football boss at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Saturday.
Giwa, accompanied by his henchman
Victor Baribote, had boasted he will lead his “executive committee” to cheer
the Eagles to victory in Calabar.
He was at the stadium quite alright,
but just when he would have enjoyed some limelight by being part of the
pre-match routine, he was barred by four stern-looking security operatives at
the foot of the gate leading to the pitch.
“It was a sorry sight as he could
only watch from distance the Cross River State Governor shake hands with the
players of both teams before the kick-off,” reported a journalist, who covered
the 2015 AFCON qualifier.
His only photo opportunity was with
former Nigeria skipper Nwankwo Kanu, who was also at the game.
It was therefore understandable why
he slipped away from the match before the final whistle by the Ghanaian
referee.
FIFA have given him up till 7am
Monday to vacate the NFF office in Abuja or else Nigeria will be automatically
banned from international football.
