Businessman Nabbed Over Death Of Salesgirl In Hotel Room

There was uneasy calm in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State as a businessman based at Onitsha Electrical Market, Onitsha was arrested over the death of a sales girl in a hotel room.

The businessman, who owns one of the biggest electrical shops in the commercial city (names withheld), was arrested following an alarm raised by the hotel management on discovering the lifeless body of the girl in his hotel room.

The deceased identified as Chinasa, from Okpuje in Nsukka, Enugu State until the incident, was a sales girl in one of the shops at the Electrical Market in Onitsha.

According to one of the hotel staff, the suspect had lodged in one of the rooms with the deceased only to leave the room suddenly and on further enquiry, the girl’s lifeless body was discovered in the hotel room booked by the businessman.

“The wealthy businessman in Onitsha had lodged in our hotel, shortly after that, a young girl in her late 20s came in and was directed to the room where the suspect had booked. After some hours, the man dashed out of the room and hurriedly entered his car and zoomed off,” the source said.

. Suspecting that something may be wrong with the way he left the room, we checked the room and saw the girl in the pool of her own blood and that was when we raised the alarm and invited the police who came and arrested the man.

“Though we could not confirm if the deceased was killed for ritual purposes, we suspected foul play in the way the girl died,” the staff member said.

A senior police source in the state confirmed the incident but did not disclose whether the deceased was killed for ritual purpose or not.

The source said the matter had been transferred to the homicide department of the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation.

Efforts to get the police reaction failed as all calls and text messages sent to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Mr. Usman Gwary, were not returned as at the time of filing this report.
