Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Anambra state under the auspices of Literary
Insight Network (LIN) have began activities
targeted at immortalizing the legacies of Late Prof Dora Nkem Akunyili reports

The President of the Network and Best Presenter of
the year (Unizik94.1fm) Elochukwu Ezeumeanya
pleaded for assistance through Literary Insight Network (LIN) Account number:
3082096312, First Bank PLC” to enable them immortalize the late Icon and Amazon.
He said they are immortalizing Late Prof Dora Akunyili for people to learn to be selfless , dedicated and committed to the service of the nation , adding that the function is hosted in the University to showcase what Late Dora stood for.
His words, “we want to make Late Prof. Akunyili’s legacies to be indelible in the sands of time with an annual publication that will comprise of poems, articles, tributes and lots more written by people from all works of life in honour of her. And with a movie production that will x-ray her life and times, to be acted by students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The event featured many activities including talk show on life and times of Prof. Dora Akunyili presented by Chief strategist of the Network Ekene Ezeumeanya and the Vice President of the Network Rt. Hon. Nwamaka Uzoigwe and unveiling of a blog site called 'doraakunyiliblogspot.com' by Chiagozie Ezeumeanya where tropical issues will be discussed and drama, articles, tributes and poetry reading sessions.

Prof Joseph Ahaneku said that Late Prof. Dora Akunyili's truthful interventions
in Nigeria’s affairs will be greatly missed.
The Vice Chancellor was represented by the former Chairman ASUU Unizik, Prof. Ike Odimegwu. He said while others may have disagreed with his views, most Nigerians never doubted Akunyili’s immense patriotism and sincere commitment to building a greater, more united nation that all Nigerians and the entire black race could be proud of.
While Praising Akunyili for his academic and literary output, Ahaneku said Akunyili was a social critic, and unparalleled courage, of singleness of purpose and steadfastness of conduct, adding that though “he has passed on, he lives in
his numerous works which will continue to illuminate the dark confines of the distorted history of the black race.”
He further thanked the Literary Insight Network (LIN, UNIZIK) crew for organizing such a blockbuster event on behalf of the University.
The event which took place at the University’s main auditorium has in attendance over five hundred (500) people which includes students, lecturers and dignitaries across the State.
In her remarks,, the host, Academic and Staff Adviser of the network, Professor Joy Eyisi, said that the way to immortalize Akunyili was to imbibe
those principles he believed in, as she revealed that the Network will be immortalizing her annually with a compendium and a movie production.
Her words,” Prof Dora Akunyili was a fearless fighter whose back never touched the sand and I really wonder if she could be replaced, describing Akunyili
as Nigeria’s greatest ambassador who brought honour to the country by combing the illegal production of drugs and foods in the country.
Prof. Eyisi further unveiled a big drawn portrait of Late Akunyili and together with the network members, presented it to Dora’s husband, Dr. Chike Akunyili and Dora’s elder sister Mrs. Rose Okeke.

In his response, the special guest of honour Dr. Chike Akunyili (Late Dora’s husband) who was represented by Dr. Ononigwe Pius, thanked the Network and the university Community for such an ovation, encomium and surprise package presented to the family of Late Prof. Akunyili and prayed that God will bless and replenish all who was behind the success of the event.
The event further featured presentation of poems, drama and articles reading session in honour of Late Prof. Dora Akunyili. Condolence messages by Prof. Pius Okoye HOD Accountancy department Unizik, Pastor Chioma Okeke of PRO Office Unizik, Merit Editson, Cypnthia Osakwe, Abraham Charles, Uzochukwu Gerry, Ufeim Ibiam to mention but a few.
