reports that ourteen people (14), including two Soldiers, and a
teenage girl have so far been killed in the communal clash that broke out on
Thursday between the Jukuns and Hausas in Ibi local government area of Taraba
state .
Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Taraba State command, ASP Joseph Kwaji who confirmed
the deaths to Journalists in Jalingo Friday further disclosed that sixteen
people also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the hostilities.
Besides, the
Police spokesman equally told newsmen that a total of twelve houses were
completely razed during the mayhem.
Also, no fewer than forty houses, vehicles and other properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the bloody clash which erupted at about 4.30 am, but was later brought under control by the combined team of Army and Police personnel drafted to the area to maintain peace.
The clash is coming barely two months after a violent clash between the two warring groups claimed several lives and properties in the area. This necessitated a permanent deployment of security men, made up of the Army and mobile policemen in the town to forestall future breakdown of peace in the community.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji told THISDAY that trouble started in the town when a man (who was later identified by residents as Emmanuel) was attacked and robbed of two hundred thousand naira at about 5:30 pm on Wednesday on his way back from Wukari where he had gone to withdraw money for the treatment of his father.
