reports that when Alexander Ilesanmi Abiodun was ushered out of his cell by
operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State Police
Command, for journalists to interview him, shouts of, ‘sure sir! Sure!’
reverberated from other detainees.
The detainees knew that Abiodun is a
suspect, since they had shared a cell with him, but they were just making
mockery of his posing as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Abiodun, 46, a father of five was
arrested on April 17, 2014, at his personal building, located at Ijoko, Ogun
State.
The suspect is being charged for
robbery and impersonation of police officer. He had used his ACP uniform to
amass wealth, to the extent of building a house. He was also known in his area
as a policeman who assists suspects to get bail for a certain fee.
He said: “Once I wear my ACP
uniform, no security agent can stop me for a search. With the uniform,
people from companies in Lagos come to me for assistance. I trained some of
their security operatives as spy policemen, and they paid me for it.”
He became a guest of SARS after a
robbery suspect, identified as Gabriel Asaolu fingered him as a receiver of
stolen cars.
Gabriel has been discovered to be a
pastor attached to a church in Ogun State. Abiodun said that it was when he
went to the church to worship, that met and became friendly with Gabriel.
According to Gabriel, once he and
his gang members snatched cars, Abiodun would be on hand to collect choice cars
from them.
Indeed, Gabriel said that the gang had
sold two stolen vehicles, a Mitsubishi Montero Jeep and a Toyota Avalon car to
Abiodun.
